Review Summary

Product Name:

Primera LX900

Product Type:

Inkjet Label Printer

Summary:

The LX900 utilizes the latest in high-resolution inkjet technology to print brilliant full-color product labels on demand

While the initial price may shock you, The Primera LX900 is one of the best value printers on the market in terms of Cost per label and Total Cost of ownership. For the price this is the best quality label printer I think you will find. Other companies have products similar in price like the Afinia Label L501 and Epson TM-C7500G

About the Primera LX900

The Primera LX900 printer is economical and it produces crisp colorful labels within seconds. In addition, The LX900 comes equipped with a semi-permanent print head and USB cable. This model printer allows the user to print high quality labels.

The Primera LX900 is as easy to use as a desktop printer, produces high resolution full color labels, and prints at 0.8 inches per second (in best print quality mode).

What We Don't Like about the Primera LX900

We set up the printer configuration for the label size and was using Adobe Illustrator to print our designs. With our first attempt the printer required multiple purges of the printer heads in order for the colors to actually work.

With our printing experience, sometimes one of the color will stop printing in the middle of a job. Even though the ink is still half full and have sufficient ink. After we replace an ink cartridge, occasionally we have to purge the print head several times and turn the machine on and off several times to get the color to appear, each purging of the print waste ink. By the time we're done with several purges, our newly installed color cartridge is down to 90%.

There is no easy way of managing the labels as they print out. You pretty much need someone to sit there and fold labels as they come out so that they don't just go everywhere.

What We like about the Primera LX900

The printer has four separate ink cartridges for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black so you are not wasting money on ink when you run out of a single color. You can also save more money on ink by lowering the ink saturation in the printer settings. If you find the sweet spot in the setting and don't need to go full blown photo quality you can cut your ink bill way down

The high gloss labels look very professional and the colors are bright. The detail on the labels is incredible; you can make the smallest logo with great definition.

  • Incredible print quality with the most photo-realistic printing on the market.
  • Accepts 3" core roll labels in a variety of inkjet materials, up to 8.25" width.
  • Prints up to 4800 dpi.
  • Versatility with uses ideal for short-run product labeling.

LX900 CONCLUSION

The print quality for this machine is good but not great. If you are looking for small business labeling machine at 25 - 50% label coverage on labels sizes between 2" x 2" and 4" x 4", this is a great printer for you. If you are looking for bigger labels at 100% color coverage then you should check out the Afinia Label L501 Color Printer.

4.1/5

The Good Stuff:
  • Incredible print quality with the most photo-realistic printing on the market.
  • Versatility with uses ideal for short-run product labeling.
  • Four Separate Ink Cartridges
The Bad Stuff:
  • High Ink consumption for high quality labels
  • Tricky to set-up the printer having the correct drivers
